Delicious

Delicious - A SOCIAL BOOKMARKING SITE
A social bookmarking site provides a place to collect web sites, organize them, and to share them with others. There are a number of social bookmarking sites including Delicious, digg.com, stumbleupon.com and furl.net. We will be using Delicious for this class, especially for Assignment #2. See how Delicious rated in the Top 100 Tools for Learning 2008

Social Bookmarking in Plain English (YouTube)

Delicious proves a tutorial to get you started.

When creating a Delicious account you will be given the opportunity to add a Delicious "Bookmarklet" or button to your browser which will enable you to quickly add new urls to your site.

To add a url without the button click on "Save a new bookmark" and type in the url for the web page. Url's that you have added to your account can be either public (default) or private. Url's are organized with tags and groups of tags can be bundled for easy access.

Other cool features:

Network: This connects you to other delicious users -- either people you know or "friends" you meet due to their collection of web sites. To add someone to your network type their Delicious username in the "Add a user" box or visit their Delicious page and select the "Add to my network" link at the top right of the page. You will show up as their "fan". Once they have added a link to your username you will be a "mutual fan"

Send Bookmarks to other Delicious users by adding the "for:followed by their username" (example for:educ3302) tag. This bookmark will appear in their Inbox the next time they open their Delicious account.

In Class Project: Create a Delicious account and if you are using your own computer you can add a delicious button to your browser (you will be given information on how to do that as you set up your account).

Add your favorite education web site or use the search feature in delicious to find a web site of interest to you (notice how many times this site has been saved in delicious, and the tags provided for the site). Click on "save" to add it to your account. Add at least 2 tags that will help you find this web site later.

Tag Bundles are a way to organize existing tags into groups. For example, if you have the tags "design", "painting", and "drawing", you may want to group these together into a bundle named "art" (from their web site). To create tag bundles click on the "Tag" tab and then choose "Manage Tag Bundles". From this page you can create a new bundle or exit bundles that you have already created.
